New gas extraction and fume abatement system in Novotema
Novotema decided to install in its plant in Villongo, Italy a cutting edge fume abatement system in order to replace the previous one which has been in use for several years now. This decision witnesses Novotema’s great attention to the safeguard of the health of its staff and of the residents of the surrounding area and also confirms the company's sensitivity towards the environmental topics.

In compliance with the regulations issued by Regione Lombardia, an extraction hood is installed on each molding press in Novotema. In addition to this, the new gas extraction facility installed by the company L.M. Tecnonlogie dell’aria, aims to significantly reduce in an efficient and safe way the level of pollutants in the air emissions.
The plant installed in Novotema consists of a coalescence system for the fumes that are conveyed from the molding presses and of a combined activated carbon and coalescence system for the fumes conveyed from the vulcanization ovens. According to Stefano Consonni, Operations Director of Novotema, "This method is part of the systems that have been classified by Regione Lombardia as the" Best Available Technologies" for the reduction of atmospheric emissions and can guarantee optimal performance that leads to a proven and substantial elimination of the release of pollutants and olfactory nuisances in the atmosphere ". Another positive side of this new system, is that it really needs very little maintenance.
The installation of this system meant a considerable economic effort for Novotema but it is definitely a long term investment. Its purposes are both the protection of the health of Novotema’s employees and people living nearby, as well as being the concrete proof of a strong corporate ethics. Novotema cares about the environmental sustainability of the entire plant.
The emissions are periodically analyzed and measured by specialized and independent external laboratories. The results of the controls carried out so far are very positive in relation to the reduction of the pollutants released into the atmosphere: this means that the positive effect of the new system on atmospheric emissions is truly certified. For instance, the old fume abatement system was already compliant with the local rules but Novotema decided to go beyond. Just to give a concrete figure, the Total Organic Carbon (TOC) emissions are now measured to be 65% lower than the emissions we had with the old abatement fume system.
